First Aid Tips Until You See Us
Do your best to stabilize the injury and call our office immediately for a same-day appointment. Here are steps you can take right now:
Severe Toothache
1. Rinse your mouth with warm water.
2. Gently floss to dislodge any debris around the tooth.
3. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for temporary relief.
Chipped or Broken Tooth
1. Rinse the area with warm water.
2. Apply gauze with light pressure to stop bleeding.
3. Use a cold compress to reduce swelling and pain.
4. Wrap any broken pieces in wet gauze and bring them with you.
Knocked-Out Tooth
1. Gently rinse the tooth socket and use gauze to stop bleeding.
2. If possible, place the tooth back in the socket or keep it in a container of milk.
3. Apply a cold compress to ease pain.
Dental Abscess
Seek immediate attention — an untreated abscess can spread infection to other parts of the body. Apply a cold compress for pain until you arrive.
Lost Filling or Crown
For a lost filling: cover the area with sugar-free gum temporarily.
For a lost crown: apply a small amount of toothpaste inside and gently press back in place. Bring the crown with you.
Gum Swelling or Bleeding
1. Rinse with a mild salt-water solution.
2. Apply clean, damp gauze with light pressure.
3. Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
